Course description:The dynamic relationship of the media to American and global society, mass media as a social institution, and how individuals, cultures and societies are influenced (and influence) media. Different societies and groups will be considered, in relationship to traditional, online, digital and social media, and will seek to understand meaning out of everyday interactions with media, culture, and society. The course provides an examination of history and practices in media as well as the relationship between the public and media from historical and contemporary perspectives. (S)
