Course description: | Basic laws and principles of chemistry, part I: Scientific notation, isotopes, atomic and molecular ions, states of matter, Lewis dot structures, periodic chart, ionic compounds, units, significant figures, density, classification of chemical reactions, chemical equations, atomic and molecular weights and molar masses, solutions and concentration, electromagnetic radiation and photons, atomic orbitals, atomic electronic configurations, ionization potentials, electronegativity, chemical bonds, dipole moments, intermolecular interactions, gases, and an introduction to thermodynamics. Students withdrawing from this course must receive instructor’s permission to continue in CHEM 151L. Prerequisite: MATH 119 or MATH 120 or MATH 124 or MATH 132 or MATH 202 with a grade of "C" or higher. Concurrent enrollment: CHEM 151L. (F, S) |
