Course description: | Basic laws and principles of chemistry part I: Scientific notation, isotopes, atomic and molecular ions, states of matter, Lewis dot structures, periodic chart, ionic compounds, units, significant figures, density, classification of chemical rcaclions, chemical equations, atomic and molecular weights and molar masses, solutions and concentration, electromagneiic radiation and photons, atomic orbitals, atomic electronic configurations, ionization poientials, electronegativity. Chemical bonds, dipole moments, intermolecular interactions, gases, and an introduction to thermodynamics.Students withdrawing from this course must receive instructor’s permission to retain CHEM 151L. Prerequisite: MATH 119, Co-requisite: CHEM 151L.
