Course description: | Primary emphasis on literacy development of children from the intermediate elementary grades to middle school. Emphasis on content area literacy, fluency, vocabulary, phonics, reading comprehension, literacy strategies and teaching students with diverse abilities. Review of phonemic awareness and its relation to reading in the intermediate grades. Application of Common Core Standards in lesson planning. Data driven instruction emphasized through authentic reading assessments and instructional strategy application. Best practice reading theory applied. Tutoring children of diverse abilities with a focus on the struggling reader and/or the ELL reader is required on a weekly basis in addition to class hours. Twenty (20) hours of field experience required. Concurrent enrollment: RED 375L. Prerequisites: RED 350. (F, S) |
