Course description:(Previously DFM 109) This course introduces students to the fundamentals in film history, criticism, and theory. Through viewing and analysis of a variety of narrative, documentary, and experimental films, students will advance their understanding of key issues in filmic representation and aesthetics. A range of approaches will be employed in understanding aesthetic and cultural significance of the medium, including feminism, post-colonialism, critical race theory, and modernism. Must be taken concurrently with FDMA 2110L. (S)
